Gameplay

Warfare 1917 is a linear strategy game where the objective is to capture ground and trenches while fighting computer programmed enemies. Units can be ordered to advance or occupy trenches. In-game units such as the Riflemen, Machine Gunners, Assault, Officers, Sharpshooters, and tanks can be used in both the British and German campaigns and custom mode[2]. Support weapons can also be called down upon command, but, like other units, must load up first.

Technologies of the time like mustard gas, mortars, heavy artillery, and anti-tank weapons are generally accurate (except for the A7V tank). That, along with the significant defense increase for units in trenches, makes for realistic trench warfare and helps to increase the historical value of the game.
